I've Quit Social Media

By Kevin, February 20th, 2021

This will be a pretty short post - I've quit social media.

I actually quit a majority of them many years ago. Last spring I locked my Twitter and never looked back. That was something I said I was going to do for a while, and then finally did. I've had enough.

I also quit looking at comments on sites, and have largely stopped visiting Reddit.

LinkedIn is quickly getting on my shit list - so I have stopped looking at that as much too. I keep it up for networking and business related aspects - you know, what it was intended for.

Who wants to sit around sharing thoughts into the void only to have every smarmy ass opportunist looking for a drive by comment snipe to appear superior to you in some way?

I am literally exhausted with wave after wave of opinions and "facts" from would be experts on whatever they are talking about at any particular moment. All of these platforms have become a toxic hellscape of nothing-opinions, fake stories designed for likes/upvotes, false narrative photos, awful unfunny memes and god knows what else.

It all amounts to a total and complete waste of your time to read. Why spend your precious time reading crap by millions of people you don't know and for opinions you never asked for? Someday you'll get to the end of your life and wish you never spent so much time on the bullshit that is social media.

I've been trying to tell people this for probably ten years now. After the events of the last year, it appears once again that I was right all along.

Social media is a toxic, negative waste of human energy.

I'm done.
