Upon the relaunch of my site, I decided to go with no comments. It is not a mistake that they are not here.
Social media and comment systems are ruining the internet. There was a time when they added value and discussion, but mostly it has all devolved into attacks, hate, flame wars, speaking in memes, and vying for "likes". Strangers partake in drive by sniping at anyone with a thought, as if that gives them some sort of elevated sense of being. Everyone has to be right, because everyone other than them is wrong.
It's not that I don't value the ones I have received over the years, I just can't support it any more.
"Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people."
I've also determined to stop looking at Twitter and tweeting this year, for all the same reasons outlined above. No longer is it a place of spirited discussion and knowledge sharing, its mostly snark filled waste of time tweets. It's no longer worth the time. It's not really worth anyones time.
